One of the most important things that makes a difference in sound quality is the microphone. In the studio we work with two types:
Neumann TLM 103 Condenser Microphone, Nickel:
It is a transformerless microphone with an electronic circuit instead of a traditional output transformer, which allows us to greatly reduce the noise of the microphone itself as well as being very versatile when it comes to recording sounds of very different ranges.
Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U Super Cardioid Shotgun Microphone:
This type of mic is used for recording room effects or Foleys. They are very directional mics, which means they concentrate the sound in a very narrow field, which makes them very accurate for this type of work.
